Christmas Pet Safety
It's that time of year again when the house turns into a wonder emporium of bright lights, shiny ornaments, glittery decorations, trees covered with "toys", boxes, ribbons, and bows. Pets often think this is all for them, and let's face it, for some it is! Along with the obvious precautions (electrical cords, tinsel, ribbon), these tips can help provide for a safe holiday season:

Cover Christmas tree base water at all times - pets can suffer diarrhea, mouth sores, vomiting and loss of appetite if they drink it.

Keep toxic Mistletoe, Holly, and Poinsettias out of pets' reach.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow,
    but not Between My Toes
!
Sure those pads are tough! But snow and ice can cause drying and cracking of those pads, and dangerous frostbite when it collects between pets' toes and other body parts. Although pets wear natural coats, they still get cold. Prolonged exposure while playing in the snow or being left outside can lead to hypothermia. Young and old pets, and pets with medical conditions, are especially susceptible.

Snowy day and cold weather tips:

Wash and dry your pet's feet after winter play or a walk to eliminate ice buildup and dangerous chemicals used on surfaces such as salt, de-icers, and antifreeze.

Bring your pets inside and provide warm bedding when the temperatures drop, especially at night!

Take good care of your pets while enjoying the Winter Wonderland!

Happy Holidays to you and your pets from Pets Path Home!
