dog holding heartHappy Valentine's from Pets Path Home

To anyone who has taken in a stray, brought home a shelter pet,
or otherwise given a second chance to a pet in need, you understand.....

The Meaning of Rescue

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked into my warm new bed,
I'd like to open my baggage,
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry -
So much to regret.   Hmmmm ...

Yes, there it is, right on the top,
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my bed hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.

I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Or will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things -
And take me right back?

Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
And never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?

Now go give your pet a great big hug!

I love my pet no matter whatPets with Baggage
Pets can suffer from emotional problems just like people. Since pets can't talk to us in human language, it is important to recognize their needs with patience and understanding. A lot of "bad habits" are just their frustration and fear of being abandoned again. Gaining a pet's trust that we won't subject them to the pain of the past takes time, devotion, and commitment to the pet's rehabilitation for the long haul, creating a rewarding bond that will last throughout your lives together.
